No Culture on a Dead Planet

This Earth Day come and explore how you as arts and cultural sector practitioners can take on the challenges of the climate emergency and shift your studios, organisations and communities to make impactful environmental change. The Cultural Sector contributes well over £32 billion a year to the economy, but our reach and responsibilities are measured in much more than monetary value. Artists, cultural sector practitioners and organisers have the ability to galvanise individuals and society to participate, learn, understand, and change behaviours in ways that last. The climate emergency demands we act now, and turn our practices towards meeting the crisis.

Suzanne will speak at this session, featuring speakers from across the arts, cultural sector, and environmental campaigns, investigates creative responses and how the sector can help address and instigate the deep cultural and societal changes necessary to make the required emissions reductions.

The session is hosted by Wor Culture, a forum for discussing issues relating to the culture and creative sectors in the North East, and contribute to shaping its future. Convened by creative producer and consultant Lauren Healey and climate author Dr Alex Lockwood, it will be part of Newcastle University’s ‘build up to COP26’ programme.
